Another tragedy has hit the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, as it loses yet another prominent lecturer.
The institution is just coming to terms with the demise of one its academicians, Mrs. Christie Agbulu whose decomposing body was reportedly found in a bush in Kogi after she was kidnapped in Lokoja on November 26.
Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed Gabriel Okayi, a Professor of Aquatic Pollution in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Okayi was said to have been killed at his residence Asase community in North Bank area of Makurdi early Monday morning.
He was said to have joyfully dedicated his new car at Foundation Faith Church in North Bank in the Benue State capital on Sunday.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama in his confirmation of the incident, said Okayi had realised his dogs were not unleashed as is usual every night and made to do so before he was attacked.
“As he stepped out of the house to release the dogs, some gunmen hiding inside his compound shot him in the back as he turned to enter his house, killing him instantly,” Makama explained.
The Commissioner said the Police Command in the state had launched an investigation into the incident.
